About Jim

IMG_5901.jpg PHOTO TAKEN Feb 11, 2024.jpg

He’s a Florida boy who grew up before air-conditioning. While still in his young 30s he became a corner-office MadMan (advertising creative director), mainly in NYC, plus four fascinating years in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He’s an optimistic octogenarian—says he’s 89 going on 49. He walks the walk and talks the talk about having purpose, making daily choices, reaching out, embracing and inviting friendships and connections. In his late 40s (he called it crap-shooting with his life) he was the creator and innkeeper of a multi-starred country inn and conference center. “I worked at least 70 hours a week for the first ten years.” It still exists as a boutique hotel.

Jim has published five books—three in his 80s. He’ll charm and challenge your audience about aging cheerfully, productively, and lengthening their lives. He wants everyone to understand that every day is a gift—that there are no guarantees we’ll wake up on the right side of the grass. He’ll remind them that at the very moment they hear his voice, they are the Youngest they’ll ever be—and he wants them to look ahead—and realize their next years can be their best years. As he says in his video: The band won’t stop playing till you stop dancing.

Although Jim believes everyone is interested in aging well and living longer, he’s also happy to speak about the Highs and Lows of parenting—and how to make that relationship with your own children (or parents) what it should be. He’s a Grand-and Great-Grandfather. And of course, he’s a writer and loves to speak about the courage it takes and the satisfaction it gives to be a writer; how it can improve your life; create a legacy for your children; or earn you a decent living.

When he’s on your stage, you’ll hear wit, wisdom and energy. He will motivate, inspire and adrenalize your company, association, or your followers. Have a chat with Jim and you’ll know why you want him speaking for you!

Loving Longevity

Jim Flaherty, the 89-year-old author, challenges readers (and friends) to ask themselves why can’t they be more like him and never wake up depressed, but embrace every day as a gift, an opportunity to achieve their purpose for living. LOVING LONGEVITY is a punchy, even humorous at moments, wake-up call for You to Face Reality with satisfaction and accomplishment. It’s not like any other Help Yourself/Better Yourself book you’ve ever read.  From your relationship with your Mother, your bathroom (no, it’s not scatological), from dealing with Dementia, finding your inner-creativeness, to stop kidding yourself about your health & living habits, or wondering why you bothered to wake up today, Flaherty gives you specific lessons for living better. He even thoughtfully reveals a private part of himself. You’ll be sorry if you don’t start LOVING LONGEVITY today.

“Jim Flaherty is the youngest, most energetic modern elder I’ve ever met. Even though he’s pushing 90, he’s all the ages he’s ever been or will be. He’s wise, insightful and has a wickedly funny sense of humor. When he’s on the dais, the audience watches and listens because he’s going to surprise them, maybe even challenge them. He wants them to feel better about themselves, and maybe more important, to take action that will help them or someone else. “
